Wine of the Month: Pommard les deux terroirs 2022
Trip to Burgundy with my daughter Capucine, November 2023.
Alexandre Dubuet Pommard Les deux Terroirs 2022, whole harvest: A lot of substance, great fruit, a hint of bitterness, perhaps something temporary…
The fruit has more volume, while remaining from the Côte de Beaune, a Pommard, so it does not have the richness of a Chambolle, it is much more fine and structured. We have a fruit that is more limited but with wonderful spices.
Pommards are wines that have a fairly high alcohol content of 13.4 to 14%, but we don’t feel it at all, perhaps due to the fact that they are whole harvests… Which means that the ripe stalks make the wine. It’s very good, and the alcohol is almost invisible, whereas a Spanish wine with a high alcohol content will tend to knock me out… I don’t think it’s purely the alcohol that knocks you out in a wine, it must be something else too…. In any case here, the winemaker has nicely balanced all that with his whole harvest.
Very pretty, and will be even better in 5-10 years.
Chambolle Musigny 2019
A dream, perfect, the softness and refined fruit so typical of 2019, but then the terroir, this refined backbone of tannins, that will be needed in time for graceful ageing. In this it is like Chambolle Musigny Amoureuses made by Mugnier and Roumier.
But it has not “Amoureuses” on the label.
It has a “reasonable” price, €160. Roumier Chambolle Amoureuses is , sit down, €6.000
As Guide Michelin states for exceptional restaurants and as the french say: “Vaux le voyage”.

Winter 2021: 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗰 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟱
Follow up on the tasting from last summer when it was lovely but very young. This winter, I saw a bottle in my cellar, and being notoriously impatient, I was tempted to give it another try. Still great class, refined, dense, balanced, and a long vibrant finish. But still 5 to 10 years away from its peak. Now I give it 92 points but potentially a 95 in 5 years. Almost first growth quality if you like the refined style like lafite rothschild but for 20% of the price.
Reminder of Summer 2020
1st day : Very dense, very great wine but needs time
2nd day: A little bit the same, I’m a bit surprised, it hasn’t softened very much but it’s very complex, very saturated, even a little sweet and I would say it has a great future but you really need to give it time, we’ll see tomorrow.
3rd day: Very powerful, a lot of alcohol, density, fruit but not ready at all. It’s impressive but not really enjoyable please wait. It’s a 90 points potentially a 95. But the 95 is very theoretical. It also has been transported and it is pretty hot outside so maybe this is not a representative tasting.
5 juin 2021: IDDA GAJA ETNA ROSSO 2019
Grape: Nerello Mascalese. I love the soft but at the same time spicy and exciting wines from Etna, Sicily. What is surprising is this contradiction. When tasting it all is well, all melts in together. But not more than one glass, please. Be careful, It is like a a carnaval you enter, like a trip you enjoy but when you “wake up” of the dream, you need some time to recover. After a glass in a restaurant, I had to wait 20 minutes, I could not walk, and I do a lot of wine training for the beginner this could be a challenge.

Thierry Mortet is a winemaker from Gevrey Chambertin, in Burgundy, strangely little known and I never understood why. Maybe that’s because he is a quiet man. He makes subtle refined wines, balanced and always with a beautiful finish. It’s classic Burgundies that respect tradition and that reflect the soil, “ Le Terroir”.
First day:
Transparent and light but intense colour with a clear rim, which shows it’s a great wine. Seducing, fragrant nose, and in the mouth spicy exiting fruit, very dry, very concentrated and intense with a long dry finish. I love this vintage; it’s very exotic, and Thierry Mortet has once again made a great wine in this very difficult but potentially amazing vintage. To tell the whole truth, after tasting this wine this time, I called Thierry and bought another 24 bottles for my future enjoyment. 93 points maybe 94 tomorrow
2nd Day:
Stored open in the fridge as always. Still a lot of fruit and tannins, it resembles a little bit his lesser wine, the Gevrey Chambertin village, but this one, “Vignes Belles” has more complexity and took a little bit more time to open up. 94 points
7th Day:
Of course a lot of fruit has disappeared but it’s still very balanced. But no hint of oxidation or any kind of fault, still very nice, balanced nice subtle fruit. Quite amazing after being open for 7 days ! I think this is going to be an amazing wine, it will age fantastically and be delicious and very interesting. 95 points

𝗔 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽, 𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 !
I already tasted this wine in June and wasn’t impressed. I thought it would need to age but today my wife, Rose Marie and I had it for lunch today and it’s amazing. It is, of course, still young, 10 years old which isn’t a lot but it has a lot of fruit, it’s very refined and dense, delicious really ! A little bit of sweetness, length and balance. (spontaneously I now give it 98 points). It’s really, really good. It is not seducing, or trying to please, but full of subdued and dense fruit if you have a little patience. It’s a wine that you can drink with a lot of pleasure day after day, it will always surprise you. But maybe the price doesn’t permit this. And yet, I think this is one of the best wines I had this month. So my advice is: Save money on other non essential items, and invest in pleasure !
95/98 points
Well as I expected, it’s such a delicious wine, so I finished the bottle, I don’t know if this was a good idea but I couldn’t stop myself, it was a fantastic experience.
16 january 2021: 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗵𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝟭𝟵𝟱𝟵
It’s Sunday, Rose Marie and I had to finish some photos of her paintings, but we were not at all inspired. So I plunged into the wine cellar, and found this Mouton Rothchild 1959. The wine infused us with joy and energy, the work turned into pure pleasure. The color now at the opening is incredible, warm deep red with a little bit of brique on the edges showing very little aging. In the beginning a nice nose, a little bit of fruit, very discrete, but still hiding its charms. In the mouth, a little bit the same thing, it’s very nice, it’s balanced, has a nice fruit with a nice ending. Nothing really impressive except its age, obviously as I just opened the bottle, I believed it would have nice surprises in the coming hour.
30 min in:
Well now it’s opening up! The nose is developing some sweetness, showing nice luscious but extremely classy fruit. It stands apart from the refined fragrance of a Lafite Rothschild and the decadent seduction of a Haut Brion. In the mouth the complexity is now showing its face, nice black fruit, dense but ripe seducing tannins, soft but firm and a nice subtle delicious finish. The ending isn’t impressive, it is not extremely long, but it has a complete harmony in the total wine, from beginning to end, so impressive and so wonderful that we were just amazed. 100 points also for the achievement to still be around.
I will remember this wine.
12 July 2020: 𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗖 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟱:
Very dense, very great wine but needs time.
13th july same bottle
A little bit the same, I’m a bit surprised, it hasn’t softened very much but it’s very complex, very saturated, even a little sweet and I would say it has a great future but you really need to give it time, we’ll see tomorrow.
15th july same bottle
Very powerful, a lot of alcohol, density, fruit but not ready at all. It’s impressive but not really enjoyable. It will be more of an enjoyment in the future. 90 points potentially a 95. But the 95 is very theoretical. It also has been transported and it is pretty hot outside so maybe this is not a representative tasting.
JANCIS ROBINSON’S TASTING NOTE: 25th january 2019
Tasted blind. Shiny deep crimson. Pretty smart and intense on the nose. Rather subtle and glorious. Very difficult to spit because it’s so suave and layered. Good freshness and so active under the aroma. Meaty but not at all reduced. Complète. 18/20
THE WINE ADVOCATE- ROBERT PARKER’ TASTING NOTE: Taster Lisa Perotti-Brown: 21st February 2018
The 2015 Brane-Cantenac is medium to deep garnet-purple in colour with a nose of crushed blackberries and chocolate-covered cherries with touches of fried herbs and tilled soil. Medium-bodied, refreshing and elegant in the mouth, with chewy tannins it has a herbal lift on the finish (Otis lift ?) 92/100
9th july 2020: 𝗠𝗘𝗬𝗡𝗘𝗬 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟲
Very nice, very concentrated, quite a lot of alcohol, a lot of tannins, a lot of fruit. Dense and has a great future I think, today for the beginners it may be a little difficult because it’s so dense. It has an enormous potential. 90+ points potentially 93 points
14th july 2020:
The wine has been kept outside of the fridge and there is very little left. It has lost nothing, it’s still very dense, the color is almost black, it has a vibrant and very powerful fruit, a little bit volatile but that’s normal after being kept outside of the fridge, no cork, nothing for 6 days. However the volatility is very low, so it’s very nice, still extremely concentrated, a lot of tannins, typically St Estèphe. It needs and will give a lot of pleasure in 10-15 years maybe even 20. It is an amazing wine ! And on top it is not an expensive wine, 30 euros, for this quality I would pay 50 euros. 95/100
Jancis Robinson’s tasting note: 23d january 2020
Tasted blind. Very dark crimson. Intense Indian ink on the nose. Give me my calligraphy pen ! Rich and round. Very glamorous. So much effort has gone into every drop of this …. VGV. 18.5/20
The Wine Advocate’s tasting note: Taster Lisa Perotti-Brown: 30th November 2018
The deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Meyney has a nose of cassis, tar, earth and bay leaves with redcurrants. The medium-bodied palate is a little lean and herbal, with firm, grainy tannins. 87/100

Try Christophe Roumier’s magical wines. Christophe Roumier is one of my absolute favourite winemakers in Burgundy. Many of his wines have an exceptional taste, but he is unique in that he goes one step further: His wines can give you a spiritual experience.
Day 1,
Amazing fruit, still young, far from its peak and vibrant at the opening. After 20 minutes, it starts to open up, but stays dry, magnificent and electric. I once called the Roumier wines almost spiritual, and this wine is really like this, this is what Christophe Roumier sometimes can achieve. When you taste this wine, it is not only giving you an exceptional tasting experience, but it also transports you into another reality. To completely enjoy this wine you should taste it with only one or two persons, and the focus of the dinner should be the wine. Roumier Ruchottes-Chambertin 2013 transforms your mind. Taste 95 points. Feeling afterwards 100 points
Day 2 :
I didn’t retaste the wine the next day, but the memory of the evening, thanks to the wine, was fantastic. I don’t think I have spent such a joyful evening in years. Even the persons who did not taste the Ruchottes Chambertin 2013 were in the same euphoric state as my wife and I. An amazing energy.

3rd may 2020: GRAND-PUY-LACOSTE 2016
This was the first time I tasted this wine. This is an amazing wine, it has concentration, balance and class. It’s a little bit sweet which I don’t really like but it comes from the natural ripeness of the fruit in this very excellent vintage. It has a length and a very vibrant finish as well a very fine acidity lingering on for more than half a minute in the mouth. Despite this very fruity and concentrated wine, you feel the minerality lingering behind at all times, which gives it a very nice, fresh but impressive concentrated finish. 93 points. Potentially 97 points
17th may 2020
It’s fantastic, round, dense, a lot of potential but is already today amazing. It’s a pure pleasure to drink it. I think this is a wine that can be drunk now but also in another 20 years. This wine has a little bit of vanilla, and a little bit of wood that comes out. My wife Rose Marie found it to be a trifle young, but I really enjoyed it. 95 points
26th may 2020
Full of fruit, a bit sweet, concentrated, balanced but this time the wood comes out a lot, much more than in the other 2 tastings that I did before earlier this month. In fact it is a little bit bothering, very prominent, I don’t know why, as the outside temperature today, and the temperature of the bottle are the same and we eat the same kind of food, vegetables, as always. I opened it up for lunch, also having it for dinner and it’s the same, it’s very very woody so I guess something happened perhaps during the bottling or maybe it comes from the cork, or dust or bacteria in the bottle. But it still has a great potential, just surprised that it’s so different from the other bottles and they all come from the same case… 90+? Points
JANCIS ROBINSON’S TASTING NOTES: 23th of january 2020
Tasted blind. rich and savory, even slightly toasty, immediately appealing nose. Perhaps not the most noble but very flashy. 17.5/20
THE WINE ADVOCATE- ROBERT PARKER’S TASTING NOTES: Taster Lisa Perotti-Brown: 30th november 2018
The deep coloured 2016 Grand Puy Lacoste gives up pure kirsch and red and black currants with violet and baking spices. Medium-bodied, firm and grainy, it’s very expressive with good concentration and length. 94+
13th April 2020: Pegau Châteauneuf du Pape réservé 2005
Dark, a little bit brique color and “larmes” (tears) on the edges of the glass.
Bottle just opened, nice fruit with a dry after taste, nose is developing and it is very nice, fruit and spices in the mouth. Everything integrates, the fruit witht the tannins and the acidity , in a very nice but powerfull way, it’s a very nice wine , not as heavy as a normal Châteauneuf du Pape but it’s still what it is. It’s pleasant and suprisingly light in the sense of feeling afterwards no headache, nothing. Very delightfull.

12th April 2020: Remoissenet Beaune-Teurons 2014
As expected, refined not complex at the opening, from a lean vintage so needs time in the glass and also to wait an other 5 years for it to come around. But Very nice, Not full but lean fruit and nice fresh finish 87 points
Second day: Has opened up a bit, it’s really delicious still dry, has this double problem of being Côtes de Beaune & 2014 in both ways not wines that are very charming. Can be very sofisticated but not depth & complexity of the Côtes de Nuit. This is a good wine, well made, i am very pleased with it, it will last an other 10 years easily. 89 points
4th day: The wine is delicious, it’s dry, very nice pinot noir taste, perfect balance but dry as 2014 is a dry year.
But still very enjoyable, very nice to drink, it is not an admirable wine. But definetly 89 points.
5th day: Really nice Pinot Noir taste, dry but balanced, seems young so i think it can age a little bit more. This is a bit herbal, not very sunny vintage but they’ve done a good job , it’s very very nice. In 1O years more it would probably be okay. 89 points.
8 april 2020: Farr Vintners Pauillac 2012
3rd wine of Château Latour.
Very dark color, the rims are degraded but young, red, color but not beginning to come to it’s top.
Balanced, ripe but a lot of subtle power. You feel it’s from young vines, not a very sofisticated Bordeaux but has a lot of density.
It’s classical, good, could age for another 5 years easily.
Gives a lot of pleasure & compares very well with wines which are the double in price. 88 points (20 min in)
The wine is full, quite complex, exciting in fact you have a lot of spices, fruits & so on. It’s really nice, good length & good fruit in the middle. Very surprised of the price, well worth it’s money. 90 points

6th day:
Keeps amazingly well, nothing has really declined, it’s still delicious, full of fruits, tannins which are soft, good balance.
Not as sophisticated wine but full and very satisfying, seems to be able to age for another five years. 88 points.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗜 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲
Day 1: Very classic & refined wine, even after 35 years it is still amazing, a lot of vitality and energy. First soft delicate fruit and then a vibrant, soft finish. It is round, has a lot of class, not invasive, really old classical Bordeaux. Taste 90 points. Feeling afterwards 94 points
Day 2: Even better ! Completely balanced, nice & full and refined feeling on the mouth. This can easily be enjoyed another 10-15 years, and may even get better. Taste 92 points
Day 3
Still holding up very well, complex, refined, nice round fruit. 91 points
Important: Don’t forget that provenance is key, especially for older wines. When I buy it is always from my trusted merchants, not always the least expensive, because I want to be sure the wine is in perfect condition.
5 april 2020: Thierry Mortet- Chambolle Musigny 2016
At the opening, funny smell, almost (betanos??). In the mouth, nice balanced fruit but a drieness you only find in 2016 in all wines from every producers. Haven’t felt it for 30 years in nay wine. Very dry / fruity & delicious today. A little bit of tanins is there but doesn’t really hide the fruit – I expect that this drieness to give a complexity that we don’t have today. Not an easy wine but has potential, it requires time. 90 points
07 april 2020: 2d day
Very classic & refined wine. Still holding perfectly, amazing back bone, vitality, energy in the back.
Soft delicate fruit and then a vibrant, soft finish.
It is round, has a lot of class, not invasive, really old classical Bordeaux. Taste 90 points

8th April (3rd day)
Very surprising change in the wine, became very balanced & the tanins that are nice and lively is well integrated & really giving a lot of life to the wine. You then have a raspberry taste from the beginning to the end & a very nice soft but vibrant nice acidity (tanins).
Very excited about this wine.
Mortet – under estimated producer, not spectacular but a little bit the old style of what I think burgundy should be at. 93 points
05 april 2020: Hudelot – Baillet Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 2014
Tasted this wine for the first time two years ago, it was green and I was very disappointed but today it is very nice. It is fresh instead of green, has a lot of energy. Not a lot of Chambolle-Musigny ‘s seductiveness but pretty refined, very subtle has a very soft, nice, vibrant energy that takes along for minutes. Very good effort. Maybe not yet the magic of Roumier or one of the producers but I think he is on his way. A lot of pleasure, a very enjoyable wine, not a great wine but very enjoyable and I have with satisfaction this wine in my cellar and I look forward to tasting it in a year. 90 point
(3rd day)
It is tuning down in a good way – integrating the fruits, tanins & becoming very balanced. Nice fresh fruit and quite refined, not usual for the producer to do refined wines.
It has given a very sofisticated wine, delicious that I think will age. Was very hopeful for this producer, Dominique Le Guen. Difficult vintage – very good job – very happy with this wine. 90 points
2 April 2020: Grand Puy Lacoste 2012
Opened one or two days ago, it is very large and very nice, but doesn’t have the spice of the connétable de Talbot 2005.
It is a classical wine, it is round, it is very nice but not as exciting as the Talbot 2005
90 points
2 April 2020: CONNÉTABLE DE TALBOT 2005
I tasted it just after one of my favorite wines, the Grand Puy Lacoste 2012, and yet I found the Connétable de Talbot even better! and for only half the price.
Fantastic !

This is a new domaine for me, I had the pleasure of meeting Alexandrine, who is an intuitive wine maker. Her wines all have a lot of fruit, they are profound and balanced and most importantly really delicious. I like that the wines are already accessible, have class and a very nice feeling of the terroir, but they also age well. I have tasted some of her previous vintages and the wines just become more profound as time goes by.
2d February 2020 :Very nice, young, dry but balanced and quite enjoyable. Complexe and good length, will age beautifully, nice energy. It will soften with age. 89+
3d of February 2020: So the next day. Full of delicious balanced energetic and seducing fruit, long, really something, calm feeling the head filled with energy, beautiful buzz. Alexandrine worked and oversaw this wine with love, you feel she knows the soil and her vines. So a combination of knowledge, feeling, intuition and precision. A Burgundy, made to last, to please, in respect of its soil. Mes hommages Madame ! 93
4th of february 2020.: Despite its young age, the wines is already better than the 2012, Great concentrated dry fruit, nice soft tannins. Has a compelling energy and amazing minerality in the finish that stays for 5 minutes. 94/100

I tasted this unknown, unlabeled port wine which was sold at Christie’s London auction in 1985 as being from around 1870 I bought 10 bottles like this but unfortunately, this is the last one. It’s fantastique ! Very surprising given the bottle is only half full and it has kept a lot of taste ! I tasted this after lunch Friday 13th november for good luck. Amazing light orange colour, subtle nutty nose, incredible soft complex elegant fruit in the mouth, soft subdued sweetness, lingering on forever on the palate. Best wine I tasted this year (2020), in tight competition with the Mouton Rothschild 1959 that I tasted the second of august 2020.

Emmanuel Rouget had the privilege to work closely, for years, with the legendary vintner Henri Jayer and was chosen by Jayer as his successor. Emmanuel, and since a few years, his son Guillaume, are the virtuoso of many of the Jayer vineyards. Every year, they let the liquide genie out of the barrels before letting it gently pour it into the bottles. As for me, I have had the pleasure to taste his wines in barrels for more than 20 years, you can imagine my delight ! His wines are always elegant, precise, intense, concentrated, complex, and …. my palate always sings. I only in September 2019 tasted the 2017 vintage with Emmanuel and his son Guillaume and this was the greatest I have ever tasted at the Domaine Rouget. When I came out of the cellar, I thought to myself “this was for me the most inspiring Burgundy tasting ever”. And Emmanuel seemed to have a similar view:
Emmanuel Rouget : “Les 2017 sont les vins plus fins que je n’ai jamais fait, fluides, fruités, le palais ne sature pas, on envie de faire la fête ! “

To have a clear color he does some “delestage”, just at the beginning with the unfermented juice, puts in another tank, lets decant the important net color it is necessary to remove the impurities “the box” rot, earth etc which can give one of the colors.

2016 03 11: Dalamara paliokalias 2013
Spyrus gave it to me in February, at Arlanda waiting for Timothee Organic Unfiltered, 10.000 bottles Naoussa region AoC Paliokalas is name of plot, lieu dit 100% Xinomavro grape Tasted Yesterday and before yesterday, narrow fruit and dry tannins, a bit austere, lack of charme, well made and nice buzz, but young and lacks complexity. But the buzz became heavy after 60 minutes, no catastrophy but it took some time to shake Today, after 3 days open, better, nice straight narrow but softer, still dry but agreable tannins in final. Could become more complexe, would be interesting to taste older vintages 87+
